The Upgrade

The founding statement of the American Upgrade

01

The machine has stopped repairing itself.

The American Constitution was written for a world without this kind of money, this kind of media, and this kind of machine. It was not designed to fail. It was simply not designed for now. Twenty-seven amendments in two hundred and thirty-seven years is not stability; it is the sound of a machine that cannot be fixed from inside.

02

The people already know.

More than seventy percent of American voters now say the country is in a constitutional crisis. Congress is trusted by roughly one citizen in eight. The wealth of the few has grown faster than the founding document has been able to say a word about it. This is not a fringe belief. It is the mainstream's own verdict on itself.

03

Every failure has the same root.

Power concentrates. Money buys access. Access writes rules. Rules protect money. The founders saw this coming and built partial walls; the walls are gone, and the same water has been rising for two centuries. A system that cannot stop wealth from becoming power will always, eventually, be purchased.

04

So we are not running a candidate, or founding a party, or starting a coup.

We are building an upgrade. The Constitution was Version 1.0. It crashed. Version 2.0 exists, in public, in full. This is the strategy of the non-revolution: we will not burn the old system. We will outmode it — build the new world inside the shell of the old until the shell, having nothing left to hold, falls away.

05

Plank One: Politics by Lot.

Government by the random draw, not the campaign. Ordinary citizens, selected like jurors, paid like workers, trained like professionals, and sent home after one term. This is not theory: Ireland's citizens' assemblies produced real laws; Belgium's German-speaking community runs a permanent citizens' council; Oregon has let ordinary people write the official ballot analyses for fifteen years. We are now putting five hundred random Americans to work on the same bills as Congress — on camera, with everything shown. When the contrast is visible, the argument ends.

06

Plank Two: A Ceiling on Wealth.

One hundred times the median. Above it, the surplus returns to everyone as a dividend. This is not punishment, envy, or confiscation — it is a limit, the same way a speed limit or a building code is a limit. No citizen should be able to buy a separate reality. The wealth gap that now defines America will be, by law, impossible to reproduce.

07

Plank Three: Rights That Cannot Be Bought.

Counsel for the accused. An absolute ban on torture. Privacy that survives the algorithm. A fair trial for the poor exactly as for the powerful. And a rule written in stone: no fortune may purchase what the law grants freely. Rights are not a market.

08

The promise is peaceful, voluntary, and complete.

When the day comes, the old government will not be arrested; it will be honored. The President and the Congress will be invited to a Ceremony of Obsolescence, where power is transferred in daylight, on camera, without a shot fired. An upgrade is not a takeover. That distinction is the whole movement.

09

We will practice what we preach, or we will fail and deserve to.

Our own leadership is drawn by lot. Our donors are capped, named, and published. Our AI is disclosed in every place it touches our words. A movement against rigged systems that rigs its own is not a movement; it is a punchline. We refuse to be the punchline.

10

The invitation.

Three planks. Nothing else. Bring your neighbors, your skepticism, your arguments — we publish the objections too. The Constitution is public. The plan is public. The books will be public. The mistakes will be public. If you believe the people are wiser than the polls say they are, you are already one of us.
