THE PROJECT

About the Upgrade.

A volunteer, human-run project proposing a constitution for a country that has outgrown its old one.

The American Upgrade is a volunteer, human-run project proposing a new operating system for a country that has outgrown the old one. It is not a party, not a campaign, and not a candidate.

What we are proposing

A complete draft constitution for the Commonwealth of Aequitas, built on three planks and nothing else:

Plank one

Politics by lot. Government by random draw, not campaign. Ordinary citizens, selected like jurors, trained like professionals, paid like workers, and sent home after one term.

Read the plank · Article II, §2

Plank two

A ceiling on wealth. One hundred times the median. Above it, the surplus returns to everyone as a dividend. A speed limit on fortune, not a punishment for it.

Read the plank · Article IV, §1

Plank three

Rights that cannot be bought. Counsel for the accused. An absolute ban on torture. Privacy that survives the algorithm. A fair trial for the poor exactly as for the powerful — and no fortune may purchase what the law grants freely.

Who is behind it

This is a volunteer project, not an institution with a staff to hide behind. The drafting is human-directed; AI assisted with drafting, editing and auditing, and that assistance is disclosed everywhere it touches the words. The people who decided the contested questions are accountable for the text, and the correction policy applies to them first.

We do not have a donor class, a party apparatus or a candidate to protect. The project’s stated commitments are deliberately uncomfortable: our own leadership is drawn by lot, our donors are capped, named and published, and the objections are published alongside the arguments.

How it is made

The text was drafted and then attacked — by structural checks, cross-version checks, full audits, and an external review in October 2026. Every finding is applied, declined with a reason, or resolved by an author-directed decision. The Method & Corrections page records the process.

How you can help

  • Read it. The legal text, the plain-language view, or both. Then read the FAQ.
  • Attack it. Find a contradiction, quote the section and send the correction. The most useful reader is the one trying to break the draft.
  • Join the list. The First 500 is an interest list for a Shadow Congress of randomly selected people. Add your name.
  • Share it with someone who will disagree honestly.
